Redskins vs. Cowboys: Betting odds, preview, picks and trends

All the trends point to Washington, but the odds and the NFL picks computer point to Dallas. Check out the analysis and trends.

Tom Pennington

The Dallas Cowboys are 0-6 ATS in their last six games against the Washington Redskins, and will try to snap out of that slump when they host the Redskins at AT&T Stadium Sunday night.

The Cowboys were a 5.5-point home favorite midweek, according to Odds Shark, but the role of home chalk has not been kind to Dallas bettors (2-8 ATS past 10).

Dallas was on the losing end of the most exciting game of the week last week, falling short in a wild 51-48 shootout loss to the Denver Broncos. Tony Romo matched Peyton Manning every step of the way, but a costly interception at the end of the game put Denver in position for the game-winning field goal.

With the cover, Dallas improved to 4-1 ATS with a 2-3 SU record, and appears to be the team to beat in the lowly NFC East.

Last week's bye couldn't have come at a better time for the Washington Redskins, who started off the season with a 1-3 SU and ATS record through their first four games. Robert Griffin III looked a bit shaky on offense, but the much bigger concern for Washington was its defense, which has allowed 28 points per game.

Still firmly in the hunt for the NFC East title at 1-3, the Redskins can get their season on track with a win coming off of the bye week. While the NFL betting lines do not favor them at most shops, many trends point to a Washington cover here.

Washington was 2-0 SU and ATS against the Cowboys last season, breaking up a 5-1 SU streak that Dallas had against the Redskins going into 2012. The total has gone over in four of Washington’s last five road games and in six of Dallas’s last seven home games, and Sunday night’s total is currently set at 53.

Mike Shanahan is certainly capable of making the most of a bye week, but as good as Dallas' offense looks right now and as bad as the Redskins look on defense, Tony Romo should be able to put up some big numbers again and be on the right side of the decision this time around.
