Patrick Roy, the Habs legend who remains bitter nearly two decades after his trade from Montreal, welcomes his former team as head coach of the Avalanche.
And nothing will be sweeter for Roy than to continue his team’s hot start with a win.
Colorado is expected to be a solid NHL moneyline favorite against the Habs. Both teams will be playing on the second of back-to-back nights, a situation where Montreal has been a betting lock lately, winning nine straight in this role, according to the OddsShark.com NHL database.
The Avs are 10-1, while the Habs are 8-5. Montreal also boasts a solid UNDER, playing UNDER the total in 10 of their 13 games so far in 2013.
Roy was humiliated at home in a 1995 game and demanded a trade. He was sent to Colorado, where the Avs promptly won the Stanley Cup. He toyed with the idea of going back to Montreal either as coach or GM, but accepted the head coaching job in Denver this year.
Under his fiery tutelage, the Avalanche has been the surprise of the NHL season. They just made a trade Thursday that indicates they are serious about playoff contention, acquiring defensive forward Max Talbot from the Philadelphia Flyers.
