The closer it gets to the World Junior Hockey Championships, the further the odds on anyone but Canada winning the tournament becomes.
World Junior Hockey Odds: Canada favorites vs Russia
Canada is favored to win the World Junior Hockey championship, but why are the defending champions from Team USA only the fourth betting pick?

About a month ago, the Russians were slight underdogs to Team Canada with the host Swedes slightly behind. Today, the World Junior hockey odds on this huge international showcase of future NHL stars have Canada at +134, well ahead of Russia at +328 and Sweden at +330.
This is interesting given that Canada’s stacked team from last year did not even collect a medal. Team USA won the event a year ago but are +330 to win it in 2014.
Team Finland is the most interesting of the longshot bets at +1500 with the Czechs further behind at +2700.
Canada assembled a team that includes more youngsters than in past years with two 2014 draft-eligible players and the consensus top pick for the 2015 draft, Connor McDavid. The tournament rarely sees younger players excel as its typically a tournament for 18-year-olds and 19-year-olds to showcase their skills.
