San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals: Betting odds, prediction, preview

The Niners are 7-1 ATS in eight visits to Arizona but the Cardinals need this one to have a playoff shot. Trends favor each team and the odds favor San Francisco slightly.

Thanks to a 7-1 SU and 6-1-1 ATS run over their last seven games, the Arizona Cardinals are still alive for a playoff spot heading into Week 17.

The Cardinals host the San Francisco 49ers as a 1.5-point home underdog, and will need a win and some help to make the postseason.

Arizona did the unthinkable last Sunday, going into Seattle to beat the Seahawks in their own building as an 8-point underdog. The Cardinals’ defense held Seattle to just 10 points and was able to overcome four interceptions from Carson Palmer to win the game 17-10 to keep their playoff hopes alive for one more week.

Arizona is 5-0-1 ATS over its last six games, and has held opponents to 14 points or less in four of those games. And they are 8-2 ATS in the past 10 seasons in Week 17.

The San Francisco 49ers are also on a nice run, going 10-2 SU and 8-3-1 ATS over their last 12 games with a 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS record over their last five. If San Francisco wins and Seattle is upset by the St. Louis Rams, the 49ers would win the NFC West and clinch a first-round bye in the process.

They are also 7-1 ATS in eight trips to the desert, according to the Week 17 NFL trends report. The game may have an impact on how people bet on Super Bowl 48, as it will decide seedings.

San Francisco has dominated Arizona in recent years, boasting an 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS record over its last nine games against the Cardinals. The 49ers are 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS in their last six trips to Arizona.

For the Cardinals to make the postseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to upset the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans as a 12.5-point underdog. That may be a longshot, but because that game is being played at the same time as this one is, the Cardinals have no choice but to play their game and hope for the best.

As the spread in this one would indicate, this should be a great game between two outstanding defensive teams.
