Duke (ACC, 10-3 SU, 10-3 ATS, 5-8 OU) is coming off one its finest seasons in school history, a campaign that ended with a trip to the ACC Championship Game. The Blue Devils posted a 6-2 SU record in conference play, including a pivotal 27-25 victory over rival North Carolina as a 5-point road underdog in their season finale to clinch the Coastal Division title. Duke showed solid balance on offense, with 234.4 yards a game passing and another 173.7 yards on the ground.
Anthony Boone and Brandon Connette split time at quarterback for a combined 3,045 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, and Jela Duncan and Josh Snead each rushed for over 500 yards. Duke's defense held opposing teams to an average of 24.7 points a game.
The Blue Devils’ eight-game winning streak both SU and ATS came to an end with a 45-7 loss to Florida State in the conference title game. The total has stayed UNDER in their last three Duke contests.
Texas A&M (SEC, 8-4 SU, 5-7 ATS, 8-4 OU) was coming off one of its best seasons ever but it could not compete with the big boys in the SEC this time around. The Aggies’ four losses came to Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Missouri after beating all the other teams they were supposed to beat.
While Johnny Manziel did not repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner, he still had a very productive year with 3,732 yards and 33 touchdowns passing the ball and a team-high 686 yards on the ground. The Aggies were ranked seventh in the country in passing yards per game (350.9) and sixth in points (43.6). Most of this team’s issues this season were with a defense that allowed an average of 30.9 points a game.
The Aggies lost their final two games of the season SU and went 2-6 ATS in their last eight outings. The total stayed UNDER in three of their last four games.
Texas A&M comes into this game favored by double digits. The Chick-Fil-A Bowl odds sit with the Aggies favored by 11.5 points for those looking to make a bet on college football. The Odds Shark computer predicts a 42-37 win for the Aggies, which would mean a Duke cover.
This will be the first meeting between these two teams. The Blue Devils are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 nonconference games while Texas A&M has gone just 2-5 ATS in its last seven bowl games. The ACC has a 3-1 SU edge against the SEC in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
