They’ll be looking to continue that trend this week against a New York Mets team that has been emptying its supporters’ wallets this season.
The Mets and Cardinals meet in the opener of a four-game series in St. Louis on Monday night, in a pitching matchup that looks lopsided - New York’s Jeremy Hefner (0-4, 4.63 ERA) vs. St. Louis’ Lance Lynn (5-1, 2.72 ERA). That has St. Louis pegged as the -190 favorite at home on the MLB betting lines menu at Bovada for Monday’s game, with the Mets the +182 underdog.
St. Louis and New York have yet to meet on the diamond so far this season, but in 2012 the Mets managed to go 4-3 against the Cardinals with the OVER/UNDER 4-3 for totals bettors.
Two teams enter the week riding league-high five-game winning streaks - the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays. Bettors will get plenty of chances to cash in on the Bronx Bombers over the next seven days, as they have a doubleheader against the Indians on Monday before playing three times against the Mariners and three times against the Blue Jays.
The Yankees are +134 underdogs for both games of Monday’s doubleheader action.
The Rays return to action on Tuesday at home against Boston before they travel to Camden Yards to play the Orioles on the weekend. Tampa Bay hasn’t had much success against either of those division rivals lately, going 4-6 on the MLB odds in their last 10 games versus both teams.
In totals betting, the UNDER is on a five-game streak in Rays vs. Red Sox matchups, while the OVER/UNDER is 4-0-2 in the last six games between Tampa Bay and Baltimore.
The coldest teams entering the week are the Milwaukee Brewers - who will be in St. Louis on the weekend - and the Houston Astros, who are each riding four-game skids.
For the Astros, that has them sitting on a league-worst .263 winning percentage as they open a three-game series in Detroit on Monday night as a +265 underdog. The Tigers already visited Houston early in May for a four-game series, sweeping the Astros while scoring 37 runs in that span.
