Baseball betting focuses on Philadelphia, NL East odds this week

Philadelphia Phillies need to decide soon if they are contenders or pretenders. The MLB odds situation this week will tell betting fans which way the Phillies are leaning.

Still looking up at the rival Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings, the inconsistent Philadelphia Phillies will get a chance to make a move this week as they meet a pair of divisional rivals on the diamond - the Washington Nationals and the New York Mets.

The Phillies and Nationals get their set underway in Philadelphia on Monday night, with the Phillies small home underdogs. Dan Haren goes against Jon Lannan in the opener, with the Nats at -115 in early betting.

The Nats winning two of the three games between the teams in Washington in their first series of the season at the end of May.

All three of those contests were OVER results, making the OVER/UNDER 6-4 for totals bettors in the last 10 Phillies/Nats matchups, a trend for those involved in baseball handicapping to consider this week.

MLB bettors are expected to get the chance to wager on the Phillies’ Cliff Lee on Tuesday night, with the lefthander 8-2 on the season with a 2.55 ERA.

Lee beat the Twins last time out by surrendering just two runs over seven innings of work, and overall he’s given up three or fewer earned runs in each of his last eight mound trips.

Philadelphia then hosts the Mets on the weekend, with New York only managing to win one of its six games against the Phillies so far on the season. The OVER/UNDER has gone 4-2 for totals bettors in Phillies vs. Mets contests in 2013, with Philadelphia a dominant 9-1 on the MLB wagering lines over its last 10 games against New York.

The Braves get their chance against the Mets this week as well, with five games at home against New York starting on Monday night - Tuesday features a doubleheader. Atlanta is 3-2 against New York so far this season, and 7-3 over their last 10 meetings.

Atlanta is then in Milwaukee for three games against the Brewers this weekend, with the teams meeting for the first time in 2013 after they split their six matchups last season.

The Brewers managed to win all three of their games against the Braves in Milwaukee in 2012; the Brewers are 6-0 in their past six home games against Atlanta.

Washington’s other series this week is at home against the Colorado Rockies starting on Thursday night, with the Nationals winning two of three games at Coors Field last week. Overall the Nationals are even at 5-5 against the Rockies over the past two seasons, with the OVER/UNDER going 3-7 in those seven contests on the totals.
