Tigers look to buck trends against Angels

The Angels have dominated the Tigers lately, but Detroit is favored this week as the teams clash. Check out the baseball wagering preview for June 23.

The Detroit Tigers are well ahead of the Los Angeles Angels in the overall American League standings this season, but Detroit will be looking to buck an MLB betting trend early this week as they open up a three-game series at home against Los Angeles.

The Tigers, who lead the AL Central, have lost six games in a row against the struggling Angels dating back to late last season, and Detroit was beaten badly by Los Angeles in their matchups at Angel Stadium in late April. The Angels outscored the Tigers 22-4 in those three game to pay out for their supporters on the betting lines. [ Game 1 Matchup Report ]

Overall the Tigers are just 3-7 over their past 10 games against the Angels, and the OVER/UNDER went 2-7-1 over those contests - with the two OVER results coming in Los Angeles in April in 10-0 and 8-1 victories by the Angels.

Los Angeles enters the week trailing both the Oakland A’s and the Texas Rangers badly in the AL West standings.

After trying to take care of business against the Angels the Tigers will head out on the road for a weekend series in Tampa Bay starting on Friday night. Detroit has had better success against Tampa Bay lately, winning two of their three meetings so far this season and overall picking up the victory in seven of their last 10 matchups.

Totals bettors will be keeping an eye on the Tigers/Rays series this weekend as well, with the OVER/UNDER trending heavily to the UNDER in their last 10 matchups - there was just one OVER result and a pair of PUSH results at the sportsbooks in those contests.

While the Tigers are taking on the Angels and Rays this week, their closest competitor in the AL Central, the Cleveland Indians, will be playing a busy eight-game schedule on the road against the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox.

Cleveland will face Baltimore at Camden Yards for four games starting on Monday night, with the two teams meeting for the first time this season; the Indians are just 4-6 over their last 10 games against the Orioles dating back to the 2011 season.

The Tribe will then play the White Sox four times in Chicago, starting with a doubleheader on Friday. Cleveland has won three of their five games against the division-rival White Sox so far in 2013, with the UNDER paying out for totals bettors at the sportsbooks in four of those five contests.

Watch for MLB lines on every game every day.
