The last four winners of the US Open are the top four choices as sportsbooks opened tennis betting odds Friday for this year’s final Grand Slam event of the year.
US Open odds feature usual suspects as top betting picks
It seems Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal always top the tennis betting board and US Open odds are no different. The world’s dominant players are followed by Andy Murray and Juan Martin del Potro on the men’s side.

And with opening-round matches still a few days away, it’s the usual suspects atop the wagering leaderboards in both the men’s and women’s championships.
On the men’s side, 2011 US Open champ Novak Djokovic was the favorite on most boards, lined at +190, according to 5Dimes.eu. Djokovic will also be going for his second Grand Slam title this year, after winning the Australian Open in January.
Rafael Nadal, the 2010 US Open champ who’s won all three hardcourt tournaments he’s played this year, was getting +275 to win it again.
And defending US Open champion Andy Murray, who also took home the title at Wimbledon in July -- the first male Brit to do it since the 1930s -- is the third choice on most boards, getting +365 at 5Dimes.
That top three is followed by 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro at +1235; five-time US Open champion Roger Federer at +1545; Tomas Berdych at +6000; and David Ferrer at +9000. The full list of tennis odds is available at OddsShark.com.
Among some of the real longshots on the men’s boards, American John Isner, who just pushed Nadal to the limit in the finals of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati last week, could be gotten at +11500 and 35-year-old Tommy Haas was getting 150/1 at Bovada.
On the ladies’ side, the big recent news came early this week when Maria Sharapova, the 2006 champ, pulled out of the tournament because of a shoulder injury.
Top-seeded Serena Williams, soon to be 32 years old, was an early 10/13 favorite to win the US Open for the fifth time in her incredible career.
Victoria Azarenka, who just beat Serena in Cincinnati and who lost to her in the finals in Flushing Meadows last year, was the second choice at 7/2.
After that top two, the field falls to Agnieszka Radwanska, who made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon, and China’s Na Li, both at 20/1; 2011 US Open champion Sam Stosur was getting 25/1; and 20-year-old Sloane Stephens, who made it to the semis at the Australian and the quarters at Wimbledon, was priced at 28/1.
