North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech betting odds, preview, and pick

Georgia Tech has dominated North Carolina over the years and the point spread favors the Yellow Jackets again. See the preview and pick from Odds Shark.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 4-0 straight up and against the spread in their last four games against the North Carolina Tar Heels, and will try to extend that streak when they host the Tar Heels in Atlanta on Saturday. Georgia Tech is a 6-point favorite at home and with good reason from a historical standpoint, as they are 13-2 SU in 15 recent matches with UNC.

The Yellow Jackets finished off an up-and-down season in 2012 on a high note with a 21-7 bowl win as a 7.5-point underdog over USC, and have carried that momentum into a strong start in 2013. Georgia Tech has outscored its opponents 108-14 through its first two games, easily covering both spreads to get out to a 2-0 ATS start, making them 4-0 ATS over their last four games dating back to last year. The Yellow Jackets are averaging 356 rushing yards per game.

North Carolina struggled in a season-opening 27-10 loss to South Carolina, but bounced back nicely with a 40-20 win and cover over Middle Tennessee at home two weeks ago. The Tar Heels are hoping that the extra week they have had to prepare on both sides of the ball will help them solve the Yellow Jackets, who they are just 2-13 SU against in their last 15 meetings.

One of those meetings was last year’s epic offensive showdown that had 118 total points of scoring as Georgia Tech came out on top 68-50. The total has gone OVER in each of the last three meetings between these ACC rivals, and is set at 60.5 this Saturday.

It is hard to gauge how good this Georgia Tech defense really is, as it’s faced only Elon and Duke so far this season, but on paper this looks like a strong unit that should be able to defend well against North Carolina. Meanwhile, UNC has struggled mightily against Georgia Tech’s relentless attack in the past, and there is no clear reason to expect a big change this year. The Yellow Jackets should be able to get the job done at home this weekend.
