Denver was a 13-point favorite at home early in the week, but bettors pushed that number down closer to -11 as of Wednesday.
Philly is rarely such a big underdog, and the Eagles are a moneymaking 7-2 ATS as double-digit dog since 1998.
What can be said about Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos that hasn’t already been said? This team is a machine on both sides of the ball, especially on offense where it is averaging 42.3 points per game.
Peyton Manning is actually getting better with age, having passed for 12 touchdowns and 1,143 yards already this season with no interceptions. Oakland ended up getting a backdoor cover on the closing line of 16.5 in Denver’s 37-21 win, but bettors on Denver from earlier in the week got their cash.
It has been a pretty mixed bag for Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles so far. After averaging 31.5 points per game on offense through the first two weeks of the season, the Eagles had a meltdown last week against Kansas City. The total has gone OVER in seven of Philadelphia’s last nine games and is 6-0-1 in Denver’s last seven games. Sportsbooks are expecting a big offensive showdown in this one with the total set at 57.
One interesting element to this game is the difference in rest. Philadelphia played on Thursday night and Denver played on Monday night, giving the Eagles an additional four days of rest. Could fresher legs help them in their quest for an upset?
Maybe, but we’re not picking against Peyton Manning. The Eagles haven’t been able to stop anyone on defense, so asking them to stop the NFL’s most explosive offense, on the road, is a tall order.
The Eagles could cover the spread in a shootout, but Denver looks like the right side.
