Yankees vs Red Sox highlight MLB betting action

The Yankees can surge into Wild Card contention and damage some old foes along the way with a big week. Baseball wagering breaks into the home stretch this week with Yankees vs Red Sox odds.

Clinging to hopes of a Wild Card in the American League, the New York Yankees will be able to help themselves in the standings this weekend as they play host to the rival Boston Red Sox in a four-game MLB betting series that gets underway on Thursday.

And the Yankees have had some success against the Red Sox recently, paying off for their supporters on MLB wagering lines in three of the last five games between the AL East clubs.

Overall, however, New York has managed to win just five of its dozen games against Boston so far in 2013, and they’re just 2-4 against the BoSox at Yankee Stadium this season. The OVER/UNDER is 6-6 in their meetings.

Boston is warming up for New York by playing three games at home against Detroit this week, and they’ll move on to a three-game road series against Tampa Bay early next week. This stretch will have a major impact on World Series odds as September breaks into full swing.

The Yankees are playing host to the White Sox early this week, and after getting a visit from Boston they’ll then move on to a four-game road series down in Baltimore.

Heading into this week the Red Sox, Tigers, and Rangers were the AL division leaders, with the Athletics and Rays sitting in the Wild Card berths, and the Orioles, Indians, Yankees, and Royals all still within shouting distance of getting into playoff position.

Over in the National League the Braves and Dodgers continue to have sizable division leads with less than a month to go in the regular season, while the Pirates, Cardinals, and Reds jockey for position atop the NL Central standings and in the Wild Card race. Those five teams are all in good shape to advance to the playoffs this season.

Pittsburgh and St. Louis will meet for the second weekend in a row starting on Friday night, with the Cardinals hosting the Pirates for three games. The Cards lost two of three games in Pittsburgh over the weekend, dropping them to just 6-10 on the MLB betting odds against the Pirates so far in 2013.

For totals bettors, the OVER/UNDER has gone 10-5 with one PUSH in 16 games between St. Louis and Pittsburgh this year.

The other top series on deck for this weekend has the Dodgers at Cincinnati, with Los Angeles winning three of the four games between the two teams at home back at the end of July. The OVER/UNDER was 0-3 with a PUSH in those four MLB matchups.
