Saints vs. Panthers: Betting odds, preview, prediction

First place in the NFC South is on the line when the Carolina Panthers host the New Orleans Saints.

The New Orleans Saints are 2-10 SU and 3-9 ATS over their last 12 games on the road. The Saints will try to break a five-game road losing streak when they visit the Carolina Panthers this Thursday.

Despite New Orleans’ terrible play on the road in recent years, the Saints appear to be in better form than Carolina and could pick up a rare road win this Thursday. The Saints are 2.5-point road favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

New Orleans played its best game of the season last Sunday, blowing out the Green Bay Packers, 44-23, at home. The Saints entered that game with a 2-4 SU and ATS record and the playoffs looking like a long shot. But suddenly, with a 3-4 SU and ATS record, the Saints are tied for first in the NFC South with Carolina and can take over the division lead with a win this week. New Orleans is 0-7 ATS in its last seven games as a road favorite.

OddsShark Computer Prediction: New Orleans 27.6, Carolina 19.3

Carolina hosts New Orleans at 8:25 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium on Thursday night.

Since starting the season off 2-0 SU and ATS, the Panthers are just 1-4-1 SU over their last six games. Carolina allowed 37 points or more in four of those six games, and while the defense got back on track to allow only 13 points to Seattle last week, the Panthers still lost the game, 13-9. Carolina is 9-2-1 ATS in its last 12 games at home, but only 3-11 SU in its last 14 games as a home underdog.

The OVER is 6-1 in New Orleans’ seven games this season and 5-1 over Carolina’s last six games. Thursday night’s total is set at 48 points at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

Coming off of a big win against a solid Green Bay team, it is possible that the Saints have turned a corner on their season. It is also possible that it was just another home game, and they’ll go back to struggling on the road. Time will tell, but at only -2.5, the Saints seem to be worth a shot.
