Chiefs vs. Raiders: Betting odds, preview and prediction for ‘Thursday Night Football’

Kansas City tries to remain focused visiting the winless Oakland Raiders Thursday night.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are a perfect 5-0 SU and ATS over their last five games. The Chiefs will have their focus put to the test Thursday night visiting the winless Oakland Raiders. Kansas City is an 8-point road favorite, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.

With Kansas City sandwiched between two big games and the Raiders desperately searching for their first win, Oakland could be the play as an 8-point home underdog despite what the computer is picking for the final score. The OddsShark computer is predicting a final score of Kansas City 27.7, Oakland 9.4.

With a 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS record this season, the Chiefs have emerged as a legitimate contender out in the AFC. They picked up a statement win when they beat the New England Patriots, 41-14, back in September, and added another last Sunday in a 24-20 win against the Seattle Seahawks. A great running game featuring Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis and a great defense make the Chiefs tough to beat. The Chiefs are 9-2 SU and ATS in their last 11 road games against Oakland.

Oakland hosts Kansas City at the O.co Coliseum at 8:25 p.m. ET.

The Raiders put together one of their best defensive efforts of the season last week, allowing only 180 passing yards and 13 points to the San Diego Chargers. But with just 233 total yards and six points of their own, the Raiders fell to 0-10 SU this season. Oakland has covered the spread in two of its last three games in losing by a touchdown or less to both Seattle and San Diego. The Raiders are just 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games as a home underdog.

Thursday night’s total is set at 42.5 points. The UNDER is 14-3-1 over the last 18 meetings between these two teams, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

Most trends and recent form point to Kansas City easily winning by double-digits against the lowly Raiders. But coming off a hard-fought win against Seattle and facing a game against Denver next week, this could be a game that the Chiefs overlook. As an 8-point home underdog in a divisional game, maybe Oakland can fight out a cover.
