Bears vs. Lions, Thanksgiving game: Betting odds, spread, trends and pick

The Detroit Lions hope to stay in the race for a playoff spot with a home win over Chicago on Thursday.

Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are 6-1-1 ATS over their last eight games against the Chicago Bears but are just 3-9 SU in their last 12 games against Chicago. Detroit will be looking for a third straight Thanksgiving Day cover. But the Lions had a long stretch of losing bets, failing to cover in eight straight Turkey Days before that.

Detroit is a 7-point favorite at home, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. The Lions have the tools on defense to give Chicago’s offense a tough day, but going up against Detroit’s slumping offense, the Bears should be able to keep the game within a touchdown and cover as a 7-point road underdog.

OddsShark Computer Prediction: Chicago 14.5, Detroit 19.5.

Winning cures everything, so not many people were talking about the Lions’ struggles on offense as they put together a 7-2 SU and 5-4 ATS start to the season. But over their last two games, Detroit has scored a combined 15 points and hit an 0-2 SU and ATS slump to fall out of a playoff spot with a 7-4 SU record.

Detroit’s 17.9 points per game rank 28th in the league ahead of only Jacksonville, Oakland, New York and Tennessee, four teams that have combined for six wins this season.

Chicago visits Detroit at Ford Field on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

After suffering back-to-back blowout losses in which they surrendered a total of 106 points to fall to 3-6 SU and ATS, the Bears have now picked up back-to-back 21-13 wins over Minnesota and Tampa Bay. Chicago’s playoff chances are a long shot, but the Bears have at least stayed mathematically alive with their recent wins.

The Bears are just 1-3 SU and ATS in their last four games as a road underdog since going 3-1 SU and ATS over their previous four.

Thursday’s total is set at 47.5 points on the Week 13 NFL betting lines. The OVER is 6-2 over the last eight games these two teams have played in Detroit.

The Lions are just 1-9 SU over their last 10 Thanksgiving Day games. While their defense gives them a good chance of winning this game outright at home, the offense suggests that the Bears could be the better play at +7 on the road.
