Chargers vs. 49ers: Betting odds, spread, preview, and prediction

The San Diego Chargers look to keep their playoff hopes alive on the road against San Francisco

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers are 1-7 ATS over their last eight home games and 1-2 SU over their last three home games. The 49ers will be in the spoiler role this Saturday hosting the San Diego Chargers.

San Francisco is a 2-point home favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Going up against a struggling offense and a deflated team, San Diego should be able to get the win it needs as a 2-point underdog.

OddsShark Computer Prediction: San Diego 16.8, San Francisco 16.5

In losing to Seattle 17-7 last Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers fell out of playoff contention and to 0-3 SU and ATS over their last three games. Over the course of their current 3-5 SU and 2-6 ATS slump, the 49ers are averaging an ugly 13.8 points per game on offense. The writing has been on the wall all season long that coach Jim Harbaugh would be fired at the end of this year, and the team's recent play has all but sealed that fate. San Francisco is 0-3 SU and ATS in its last three games against San Diego.

The Chargers visit San Francisco at 8:25 p.m. ET Saturday night at Levi's Stadium.

San Diego is just 1-8 ATS over its last nine games and 3-5 SU over its last eight after losing to the Denver Broncos 22-10 at home last Sunday. At 8-6 SU, the Chargers are still mathematically in the hunt for an AFC Wild Card spot, but the team will likely need wins in its last two games and some help from around the league as well. After scoring 61 combined points in wins over St. Louis and Baltimore, San Diego mustered up only 24 combined points in back-to-back losses to New England and Denver. The Chargers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games on the road, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.

The OVER is 6-3 in the last nine meetings between the Chargers and 49ers. Saturday's total is set at 41.5 at the sportsbooks.

Both of these teams have struggled in recent weeks. However, San Diego has more to play for and has shown more signs of life on offense, making the Chargers worth a play at +2 on the road.
