Pittsburgh Penguins vs Philadelphia Flyers betting odds, preview, pick

Pittsburgh vs Philly NHL betting odds home and home set

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to continue their dominance against Metropolitan Division foes this season in a home-and-home series against the Philadelphia Flyers that starts on Saturday in Philadelphia.

The Penguins are a -120 road favorite over the Flyers on Saturday, who are going off at +110 at home.

Pittsburgh came out of the Olympic break shaky, losing three of their first four games while giving up five goals in each of the three losses. The Penguins have seemingly got things back on track since with a 3-0 SU record while holding opponents to just a total of four goals over that three-game stretch.

With the best power play (25.3%) and penalty kill (87.1%) in the NHL, Pittsburgh routinely punishes opposing teams in the special teams battle. Sidney Crosby is running away with the NHL scoring title with 88 points, holding a 15-point lead over Phil Kessel in second.

The Philadelphia Flyers hit a rut back in January, finishing the month on a 3-6-2 slump. But since then, the Flyers have planted themselves firmly in the playoff hunt with a 7-2-1 run over their last 10 games.

With a defense that ranks 21st in the league allowing 2.8 goals per game, Philadelphia’s success lies heavily on how the offense is clicking. Claude Giroux leads the way with a team-leading 23 goals and 42 assists.

Pittsburgh has had the upper hand in recent battles between these two rivals with a 6-3 SU record in its last nine games against Philadelphia. Despite how strong both of these teams are on offense, the total has gone UNDER in six of their last eight meetings.

While Pittsburgh sits comfortably in first place in the Metropolitan Division with 92 points, only four points separate second from sixth in the divisional standings. Philadelphia is in the heat of that battle and will be playing for its playoff life down the stretch, making these division rivalry games even more interesting.

After hosting Pittsburgh on Saturday, Philadelphia visits the Penguins on Sunday. Pittsburgh has the best home record in the league at 24-4-2.
