Wichita State vs Kentucky betting, odds on Tennessee vs Mercer Sunday

Wichita State keeps covering spreads, and top seeds dominate No. 8 seeds historically. The Shockers face Kentucky, while bracket-busters Mercer and Tennessee are also featured in Midwest Region betting.

SB Nation 2014 NCAA March Madness Coverage

The No. 1-seeded Wichita State Shockers are a perfect 12-0 straight-up and against the spread in their last 12 games as a single-digit favorite.

They will be in that role on Sunday going up against No. 8 Kentucky as a 2.5-point favorite. Later in the day, the Midwest region action continues with No. 11 Tennessee as an 8-point favorite against No. 14 Mercer.

Wichita State’s 64-37 blowout win against Cal Poly brought the Shockers to 35-0 SU and 25-6-1 ATS on the season. Wichita State was a favorite of 12 points or more in each of its last nine games and covered the spread in all of them.

Top seeds are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against 8-seeds since 2009.

Kentucky is 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS over its last four games, including the win and cover against Kansas State on Friday. The Wildcats haven’t fared well as a dog recently with a 3-10 SU record in their last 13 games as the betting underdog.

The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Kentucky’s last 13 games and in each of its last three.

Wichita State vs. Kentucky starts up at 2:45 p.m. ET at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina hosts the Mercer vs. Tennessee betting matchup at 6:10 p.m.

Mercer pulled off the biggest bracket-buster of the first round, ousting Duke 78-71 as a 12.5-point underdog. With a 5-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record that includes two straight outright upsets, Mercer will be back in the Cinderella role Sunday as a big underdog to red-hot Tennessee. Jakob Gollon led Mercer in the upset with 20 points.

The Volunteers are one of the hottest teams in basketball with a 6-1 SU and ATS record in their last seven games. All six of those wins have been by margins of 15 points or more, including Friday’s 86-67 win against Massachusetts.

The Volunteers are 12-2 SU and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 as the betting favorite.
