SB Nation 2014 NCAA March Madness Coverage

No. 3 Iowa State is 11-1 straight up in its last 12 games as the betting favorite. The Cyclones are a 1.5-point favorite on Sunday squaring off against No. 6 North Carolina.

Later in the evening, the East bracket continues with No. 1 Virginia as a 6-point favorite against No. 8 Memphis.

Iowa State improved to 5-0 SU and ATS over its last five games in its 93-75 blowout win over North Carolina Central, but paid a huge price in the process. Georges Niang, one of the team’s top three scorers and a key to the offense, was lost for the rest of the postseason with a broken foot. Iowa State will attempt to stay hot without him.

North Carolina won but failed to cover on Friday against Providence, falling to 0-6 ATS despite a 4-2 SU record during that stretch. The total has gone OVER in each of North Carolina’s last three games and in five of its last seven. No. 6 seeds are just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against No. 3 seeds.

The Iowa State vs. North Carolina betting matchup tips off at 5:15 p.m. ET at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. Memphis vs. Virginia is set to start at 8:40 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Virginia survived an early scare from No. 16 Coastal Carolina on Friday to eventually pull away with a 70-59 win and improve to 17-1 SU during its last 18 games. The Cavaliers failed to cover the spread as a 20-point favorite and are just 1-4-1 ATS in six NCAA Tournament games since 1996.

Memphis won and covered against George Washington in the first round, playing in another game that went UNDER the total. Five of Memphis’ last six games have gone UNDER the total, and each of its last four tournament games have gone UNDER as well.

No. 8 seeds are just 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against No. 1 seeds.
