St. Louis Blues vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL betting odds preview

Colorado is a rare home underdog Saturday afternoon against the powerful Blues. See the betting matchup details and latest odds.

Doug Pensinger

The St. Louis Blues have opened the month of March with a 3-0 SU record including two wins on the road, and will try to extend that winning streak with another road win Saturday afternoon against the Colorado Avalanche.

St. Louis is a -120 favorite over the Avalanche, who are currently paying +100 on the NHL betting lines at home.

Sitting with one of the best records in hockey at 39-13-6, the third best scoring offense in the league averaging 3.2 goals per game, and the third best scoring defense averaging 2.2 goals against per game, it didn’t look like the St. Louis Blues needed to do much at the trade deadline.

But the Blues decided that they were ready to make a serious push at a Stanley Cup this year and made a trade to bring in elite goaltender Ryan Miller. So far it has been a perfect fit for Miller and the Blues, who are 3-0 SU and outscoring opponents 10-5 over three games since he has joined the team.

Many were writing off Colorado’s 14-2 SU start as a fluke and expecting the Avalanche to fall back down to earth, but that fall hasn’t happened. The young Avs are 41-17-5 and riding a 4-0 SU winning streak that includes road upsets over Chicago as a +149 moneyline dog and Detroit at +103.

In the 3-2 win over Detroit, rookie Nathan MacKinnon broke Wayne Gretzky’s record for consecutive games with a point by an 18 year old by earning a point for the 13th consecutive game. MacKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and Matt Duchene lead an offense averaging three goals per game.

The St. Louis Blues are 5-2 SU in their last seven games against Colorado with three straight wins including a 7-3 win in St. Louis and a 4-1 win in Colorado so far this season. The total has gone OVER in 10 of Colorado’s last 13 games and in five of St. Louis’ last nine.

With St. Louis, Colorado, and Chicago all within three points of each other atop the Central Division standings, these head-to-head divisional games may hold huge seeding implications down the stretch.
