NBA Playoff Betting: A futures update and series betting odds recap

The Pacers went from series favorites to underdogs overnight. What are the rest of the NBA playoff odds looking like now?

USA TODAY Sports

The first round of this year’s edition of the NBA playoffs isn’t completed yet and it’s still provided several interesting underdog-related storylines.

The eighth-seeded Atlanta Hawks are on the verge of ousting the top-seeded Indiana Pacers, and lower seeds lead two other series.

In an NBA playoffs format normally dominated by higher seeds, might we finally see some serious upsets and plentiful payouts on some NBA playoff futures betting? Here’s a quick update of where things stand, both in the various series and on the NBA futures board.

The fourth-seeded Washington Wizards began their first-round series with the fifth-seeded Chicago Bulls as a +165 underdog on NBA betting lines at shops such as Bovada. Now, up three games to one heading into Game 5 Tuesday night in Chicago, the Wiz are favored by -500 to win this series.

On the other side of the coin the Bulls can now be gotten at upwards of +400 to rally and win the last three games.

The seventh-seeded Memphis Grizzlies began their series with second-seeded Oklahoma City getting +300 to win it. And even though the Grizz have split the first four games of this series, heading into Game 5 Tuesday night, they can still be gotten at +275 to advance.

The third-seeded LA Clippers and sixth-seeded Golden State Warriors began their series with the Clippers favored by -380, the Warriors getting +320. Now, after the teams have split the first four games, heading into Game 5 Tuesday night, LA was lined at -300, with Golden State getting +250.

The eighth-seeded Dallas Mavericks started their first-round series with the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs as a +500 shot to advance. Now, with the series tied at two games apiece heading into Game 5 Wednesday night, the Mavs have been bet down to +160.

The fifth-seeded Portland Trailblazers began their first-round series with the fourth-seeded Houston Rockets as +175 underdogs to advance. Now, after taking three of the first four games, heading into Game 5 Wednesday night, the Blazers are favored by a price of -450, while the Rockets can be bet at +350 to come back and take the series.

Finally, Atlanta went off getting +450 to upset Indiana. Now, with a 3-2 lead heading into Game 6 Thursday night in Atlanta, the Hawks were favored by -185 to win this series, with the Pacers getting +160 to win the last two games.
