World Cup 2014 betting: odds on Algeria to win

Algeria is a long shot not only to win the World Cup, but also to make it out of their group.

The squad does have a solid midfield, but they do not have a great attack or defense and that could hurt them in group play. The squad is playing in back to back World Cups for the first time since 1982 and 1986.

World Cup odds makers are not giving them much love, as they have the worst odds from any team from Africa, according to Gamblingsites.net.

Luckily for Algeria they are not playing in the toughest group, but betting odds have them finishing at the bottom of the group stage, which is exactly where they finished in 2010.

The roster really lacks world-class talent and since they do not feature a great striker they will have to win low scoring matches and hope for draws to have any chance to advance to the last 16, which they have never done.

Algeria is in Group H with Belgium, the group favorite, Russia, and South Korea. Their first group match is facing Belgium and even though that squad lost their key FW for the tournament the Algerians are outmatched.

The South Korea match is the one they have a chance to take points away from with their solid midfield. Russia creates a major match up problem since they have a great defense and a solid midfield.

Algeria will not fare well against Belgium or Russia and while they may get a point or three facing South Korea they will not advance to the last 16.

Not easily to say the least, as they needed a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso in the second leg of their playoff to advance to Brazil. However, in qualifying they won seven of their 10 matches and in three of their last four they came though on the defensive side of the pitch with three clean sheets.
