Luis Suarez suspension odds: how long will biting ban be

Oddsmakers love to sink their teeth into any kind of prop bets that can attract wagering interest and they found a delicious subject with the biting incident involving Uruguay’s Luis Suarez.

Suarez was charged with biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay’s win over Italy that propelled them to the round of 16. While Suarez received no punishment in the match, he has been charged with biting by FIFA, who are now in the midst of disciplinary proceedings against the star striker.

It also initiated some fun investigations on the odds of getting bitten by Suarez, with one group concluding it was much more likely than being bitten by a shark.

Suarez has been charged with violating the FIFA rulebook on chomping opponents on the shoulder. According to FIFA’s disciplinary code, these actions amount to misconduct and offensive behavior.

The minimum bad would be for four matches, but that may seem unlikely since this is Suarez’s third incident where he is facing punishment for a biting incident.

It wasn’t all bad, as numerous bettors cashed in pre-World Cup props that he would bite someone, some cashing at 175-1 odds.

Since he was banned 10 matches for his second incident, it may be a little surprising that the Over/Under for the latest incident is set at just 10 matches.

The ban may be a lengthy one and FIFA is under a lot of pressure to drop the hammer on him. However, FIFA wants their stars to play in their competitions so it will be interesting what their ruling will be.

After the incident Chiellini pointed to that fact stating, “Suarez is a sneak and he gets away with it because FIFA want their stars to play in the World Cup. I’d love to see if they have the courage to use video evidence against him. The referee saw the bite mark too, but he did nothing about it.”
