World Cup Futures: Round of 16 Odds Favor Traditional powers

Brazil is the biggest favorite in Group of 16 betting this weekend, while the Dutch look to head back to the final. See World Cup odds and matchups.

After finishing on top in Group B, the Netherlands are strongly positioned to make a strong run towards their first ever World Cup title.

The Oranje are EVEN odds in their round of 16 match against Mexico, who defied the odds as 9/1 groups betting long shots to advance out of a tough Group A.

If the Dutch can get past Mexico they will take on the winner of Costa Rica and Greece, who meet in a battle of group-stage long shots. The surprising Ticos, who defied 50/1 odds to emerge on top of Group D, are pegged as 27/20 moneyline favorites against the Greeks, who have struggled in international tourneys since capturing the title at Euro 2004.

The Greeks are 11/5 underdogs on Sunday against Costa Rica.

World Cup hosts Brazil will face their biggest challenge of the tournament when they take on Chile in the opening match of the round of 16. The Brazilians are heavy 1/2 moneyline favorites against Chile, who had an outstanding group stage with decisive wins over Spain and Australia before falling 2-0 to Netherlands.

Colombia holds the edge in World Cup 2014 wagering in their round of 16 match against Uruguay, who are still reeling from the suspension of star forward Luis Suarez, who will miss the remainder of the World Cup.

Uruguay are 8/5 underdogs to advance to the quarters against Colombia, who are 10/21 favorites.

Germany and France take on a pair of solid African squads in their round of 16 matchups. Les Bleus are 5/11 moneyline favorites against Nigeria, who advanced on the strength of a 1-0 group stage win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Germany are favored by 1.5 goals and are 2/7 on the moneyline against a surprising and explosive Algerian squad who rewarded bettors by advancing beyond the group stage as 15/4 underdogs to advance to the round of 16.

The United States have the opportunity to silence naysayers when they take on Belgium. The Americans are 16/5 moneyline underdogs against a potent Belgian squad, who emerged from the group stage atop Group H.

If the Americans can get the upset, they will face the winner of Argentina and Switzerland. Argentina, who trail only Brazil as favorites to win their first World Cup since 1986, are very heavy 1/5 favorites to advance to the quarterfinals against the Swiss, currently 13/4 underdogs.
