World Cup 2014 betting: odds on Honduras to win Group E

Honduras has a decent offense, but they have the second worst odds to win the World Cup and the worst odds to win Group E.

The defense is the main concern for the squad and, while they had some good showings in the qualifying process, can they keep up with the group squads with the lack of world-class talent they have?

Will they attract any interest at all in World Cup betting at such long-shot odds?

Honduras is in a group with France, Switzerland, and Ecuador, who they played to a draw with in a World Cup tune up last year. Still, with their defense they will have issues playing with Switzerland and France.

In their last three friendly matches, they lost badly to Brazil, played to a draw against Ecuador, and they beat Venezuela.

Honduras does have a chance to take points from their second match facing Ecuador, which is the weakest team from South America playing in the World Cup.

However, they really have no chance playing France and Switzerland, who each boast terrific midfields. The squad may not be blanked this summer, but they will not be advancing the round of 16.

Honduras came in third in the CONCACAF “Hex” qualifying and they advanced to Brazil because they finished solid unbeaten in their last four matches. In the stronger teams they faced they did play well beating USA at home and against Mexico team that is also playing in Brazil the squad played to a draw twice.

In their stretch run Honduras scored seven goals in their last four matches, Overall, they had a qualifying record of four wins, three losses, and three draws.

Wilson Palacios FW Alajuelense - he is the veteran of the squad and with the defensive issues the team has he will have to press the issue to score goals.

Jerry Bengston FW New England Revolution - He and Palacios make a solid duo up front and he and the squad’s offense will have to play well for them to have any chance to advance to the last 16.

Roger Espinoza MF Wigan Athletic - The creative midfielder will have to play well on both ends of the pitch and really needs to set up the guys up front. It is also key that he thwarts the Swiss and French, who may dominate the time of possession battle with Honduras.
