Georgia at South Carolina betting guide and pick

South Carolina is almost never a home underdog, but when they are, they usually cover the spread. They host Georgia Saturday.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The South Carolina Gamecocks are 5-0-1 against the spread in their last six games as a home underdog with three outright upsets over that stretch. They'll be in the home underdog role for the first time since 2010 on Saturday hosting the Georgia Bulldogs as a 6.5-point underdog.

South Carolina has not looked sharp in its first two games, but with a 5-1-1 ATS record in its last seven games against Georgia, the Gamecocks may be too tough to pass up on as a 6.5-point underdog at home.

The Gamecocks are 19-1 SU in their last 20 games at home, but that one loss came in disastrous fashion in their season opener against the Texas A&M Aggies. Kenny Hill passed for 511 yards and five touchdowns en route to a 52-28 Texas A&M victory, gouging South Carolina’s usually stingy defense. South Carolina bounced back with a 33-23 win over East Carolina last week, but failed to cover the spread as a 14.5-point favorite.

Georgia is 3-0 SU and ATS over its last three regular season games, including a 45-21 win as a 9.5-point favorite over Clemson in its season opener. Heisman contender Todd Gurley rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns on just 15 carries in the blowout win, adding a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as well. The total has gone OVER in 12 of Georgia's last 16 games.

Gurley’s big day allowed Hutson Mason to play the role of game manager, passing for only 131 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. While South Carolina’s defense doesn’t look like the stingy unit it has been in recent years, it has been rock solid in rushing defense through the first two games of the year.

If the Gamecocks can find a way to contain Gurley, it may be up to Mason to be the difference maker in this game.

Hutson Mason’s inexperience heading into a hostile road environment along with this game being a must-win for South Carolina to stay in contention for the SEC East title make the Gamecocks look like a live dog on Saturday at +6.5.
