Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos betting odds, trends, preview

The Broncos allowed a backdoor cover against the Colts in Week 1 and the computer predicts they will do it again Sunday night against the Chiefs.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos are 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games as a double-digit favorite.

The line

The Broncos are the biggest favorite on the board in Week 2 going off at -13 at home against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The history

Denver allowing Indianapolis to come back with a backdoor cover may leave bettors gun-shy about taking the Broncos as a big favorite again, but the matchup points to the Broncos being a strong pick even at -13 against the Chiefs.

In the first half of Sunday Night Football, the Denver Broncos looked the part of the Super Bowl contender they are expected to be. The team’s new acquisitions on defense helped stymie the Colts and hold Indianapolis to only three points, and Peyton Manning was his usual sharp self.

Denver looked to be in cruise control with a 24-0 lead, but needed to hold on down the stretch for a 31-24 win. The Broncos failed to cover the spread but are still 25-3 SU and 19-9 ATS over their last 28 regular season games.

The Odds Shark computer, which was just 2-3 in its first week in the Westgate SuperContest, predicts a similar result here with a 34-31 final for the Broncos.

Kansas City’s performance against Tennessee last week was a surprisingly inefficient one for the Chiefs. Jamaal Charles was completely ineffective rushing for just 19 yards on seven carries and Alex Smith threw an uncharacteristic three interceptions.

The Chiefs will try to rebound as a road underdog this week, which hasn’t been a good role for them with a 2-14 SU and 6-10 ATS record in their last 16 games as one.

Denver is 3-0 SU and ATS in its last three games against the Chiefs including two double-digit wins over Kansas City at home. The UNDER is 5-1-1 over the last seven meetings between these two teams.

Double digit spreads in the NFL are difficult to deal with, but a team like Denver has such a strong offense that 13 points, especially at home, is not all that daunting.

The pick

Kansas City should be better than it was last week, but even an improved effort may not be enough to prevent Peyton Manning and the Broncos from winning and covering this Sunday.

Odds Shark Computer Prediction: 34-31 Denver
