USC vs. Notre Dame 2015 odds: Fighting Irish betting favorites over Trojans

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive as favorites hosting the USC Trojans on Saturday.

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread in their last four games at home against Pac-12 opponents. The Fighting Irish will try to earn their fifth straight home win against the Pac-12 when they host the USC Trojans this Saturday night.

Notre Dame is a 6.5-point favorite at home according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The favorites originally opened at -3 at home, but steady betting action early in the week on Notre Dame has brought the spread up to -6.5.

Showing no side effects from suffering its first loss of the season the week before, Notre Dame played well in its 41-24 win at home over the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday. It was the fourth straight game that Notre Dame had covered the spread, and the offense had a nice bounce back effort and brought the team’s average up to 37.8 points per game on the season.

If the Fighting Irish can survive this test, their schedule lightens up until their last game of the season on the road against Stanford, which could have playoff implications. Notre Dame is 6-1 SU and ATS in its last seven games per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Trojans vs. Fighting Irish OddsShark Matchup Report

The USC Trojans suffered their second home loss as a big favorite in three weeks last Saturday, losing to the Washington Huskies, 17-12, as a 17-point favorite. The loss, coupled with reports of intoxication throughout the season, led to the dismissal of head coach Steve Sarkisian early in the week.

Clay Helton takes over as the interim head coach for USC, and bettors may remember his name from when he led the Trojans to a 45-20 win over Fresno State in the Las Vegas Bowl back in his last interim stint in 2013. USC is 5-2 SU in its last seven games.

Saturday’s total is currently set at 60.5 points. The UNDER is 4-0-1 in the last five games between USC and Notre Dame.

Despite USC’s off-the-field turmoil this week, this should be a close game. USC is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games against Notre Dame, and two of those losses were by only four points each. Take the 6.5 points on the road team in this rivalry game.
