World Series odds 2015: Mets, Royals start square on betting lines

The Kansas City Royals and New York Mets look to be a fairly even matchup at the sportsbooks heading into the 2015 World Series.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets are 5-0 over their last five games in the 2015 postseason. Now, the Mets will start the World Series on the road against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

Both New York and Kansas City are going off at -110 to win the World Series at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Mets are a slight road favorite at -110 in Tuesday night's series opener sending Matt Harvey to the mound against Edinson Volquez and the Royals at +100.

Led by Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz, the New York Mets have one of the deepest and best pitching staffs in the entire league. That has shined through in the playoffs with the team boasting a postseason-leading 2.81 Team ERA.

Daniel Murphy has been stealing headlines while leading the offense with six straight games with a home run. New York never trailed in its sweep of the Chicago Cubs and looks to be in top form heading into the World Series.

The Toronto Blue Jays were considered by many to be the team to beat this postseason, and the Royals beat them. Kansas City's relentless offense leads all teams this postseason in batting average (.271) and runs per game (5.73), and was able to defeat David Price twice to fuel the Royals' series win over Toronto.

Kansas City is 11-3 over its last 14 home postseason games, including a current 5-0 streak per the OddsShark MLB Database.

Considering how well Murphy is swinging the bat this postseason, it should come as no surprise that the Mets' second baseman is the favorite to win the World Series MVP award at +400. Yoenis Cespedes is the next most likely Met to win the award at +750, followed by Curtis Granderson (+1400) and Harvey (+1400).

Kansas City's depth on offense makes it difficult to predict a series MVP should the Royals win the World Series. Leadoff hitter Alcides Escobar has the best odds on Kansas City's side to win MVP at +750, followed by Eric Hosmer (+1000), Ben Zobrist (+1400), Lorenzo Cain (+1400) and Kendrys Morales (+1800).
