Patriots vs. Texans 2015 odds: New England slim road betting favorite

The New England Patriots will try to snap a two-game losing streak this Sunday night as road favorites against the Houston Texans.

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots are 6-1 straight up and 3-4 against the spread in their last seven games on the road. The Patriots lost their last game on the road, and will try to avoid a third straight loss overall when they take on the Houston Texans in Houston on Sunday night.

New England is a 3.5-point road favorite over the Texans according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last 11 games as a favorite of four points or less, the Patriots are just 4-7 SU and ATS.

After jumping out to a 10-0 SU and 5-2-3 ATS start to the season, many people were wondering whether or not the Patriots were going to put together another 16-0 SU season like they did in 2007. But key injuries on the offensive side of the football finally caught up to the Patriots, who have now suffered two straight losses including a shocking 35-28 loss to the Eagles last Sunday as an 8-point home favorite.

The Patriots are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games coming off an outright loss.

Over their last 30 games played in the month of December, the New England Patriots are 25-5 SU and 14-13-3 ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.

The Houston Texans seemed to be left for dead in the AFC playoff race after getting off to a 2-5 SU and ATS start to the regular season. But with a 4-1 SU and ATS record over its last five games, Houston has played its way back up to .500 at 6-6 SU and ATS and is still alive for a trip to the postseason.

The biggest reason for the turnaround is the play of the defense, which has allowed only 13 points per game over the last five games after allowing 34.8 points per game in the team’s previous four games. Houston is 7-2 SU and ATS in its last nine games after a loss.

Sunday night’s total is set at 45 points. The OVER is 6-0 in the last six games between the Patriots and the Texans.

New England is still depleted on offense, and that doesn’t bode well on the road against a team with a strong defense like Houston’s. Take the points on the home team as the Texans may pull off the upset, but should at least keep it close to the end.
