Jets vs. Bills 2016 odds: New York betting favorite seeking playoff berth at Buffalo

The favored New York Jets will try to secure a playoff spot this Sunday afternoon with a win on the road over the Buffalo Bills.

Jim O’Connor-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets are 0-4 straight up and against the spread in their last four games against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets will try to break out of that slump and clinch a playoff spot this Sunday with a win over the Bills in Buffalo.

New York is a 3-point road betting favorite on Sunday according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This will be the 12th time in the team’s last 14 games that the Jets are going off as the betting favorite.

A Pittsburgh Steelers loss to the Baltimore Ravens gave the New York Jets control of their own destiny last Sunday heading into overtime against the New England Patriots, and the Jets took advantage. With a 26-20 win over New England, New York improved to 5-0 SU and 4-0-1 ATS over its last five games, and is now one win away from making the playoffs. That win will have to come against a team the Jets have struggled with in recent seasons.

In their last 11 games coming off an upset win, the New York Jets are 2-9 SU per the OddsShark NFL Database.

The Buffalo Bills came into the season with plenty of hype, but it didn’t translate into on-field success. The Bills enter their final game of the season with a 7-8 SU and 7-7-1 ATS record, including a 4-3 SU and ATS record at home.

Rex Ryan picked up a win in his first game against his old team when the Bills beat the Jets, 22-17, in New York earlier this season, and will try to complete the series sweep this Sunday. Buffalo is 7-2 ATS in its last nine games as a home underdog.

Sunday’s total is set at 43 points. The OVER is 6-0 in Buffalo’s last six January games and 9-3 in New York’s last 12 January games.

All of the pressure in this game is on the New York Jets, and that should work to Buffalo’s advantage. Buffalo should embrace the opportunity to play spoiler against a hated division rival this week, and the defense is strong enough to lead the Bills to an upset at home as a 3-point underdog.
