Gonzaga vs. Saint Mary’s betting preview and matchup stats

Gonzaga hopes to keep its perfect conference record intact visiting the Saint Mary’s Gaels.

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

The Gonzaga Bulldogs have reeled off a 20-0 SU run since suffering their only loss of the season to the Arizona Wildcats back on December 6. The Bulldogs will look to avoid a road upset this Saturday when they visit the Saint Mary's Gaels at the McKeon Pavilion.

Gonzaga is currently going off at 14/1 to win the NCAA Tournament this season according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Saturday's game against Saint Mary's is the last road game on Gonzaga's regular season schedule.

With Kyle Wiltjer and Kevin Pangos leading a balanced scoring attack that averages 79.8 points per game (good for 10th-best in the nation), the Bulldogs have steadily rolled through their soft schedule in the West Coast Conference. Gonzaga was a double-digit favorite for the 15th straight game in its road game against Pacific on Thursday night, going 7-6-1 ATS in those previous 14 contests. The Bulldogs have the highest shooting percentage in the nation at .527.

The Gaels have made the NCAA Tournament three times in the last five years and are a respectable 19-6 SU and 15-6-2 ATS on the college basketball odds so far this season. On offense, the Gaels are a one-man show with senior forward Brad Waldow leading the way with 20 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game. Since losing to Gonzaga 68-47 on the road back in January, the Gaels went 4-2 SU and ATS over their next six games.

All of the pressure will be on Gonzaga in this one. Expected to run through their weak schedule, the Bulldogs will likely need to win out to stay in contention for a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Saint Mary's is 0-6 SU and ATS in its last six games against Gonzaga according to the OddsShark College Basketball Database, but four of those games were on the road. The total has gone UNDER in each of the last six games between these two teams.

If Saint Mary's wants to get into the NCAA Tournament this season it will probably take winning the WCC conference tournament, and a win against Gonzaga this week would give the Gaels some confidence heading into the postseason.
