NCAA Tournament First Four Tuesday Betting Preview and Stats

Hampton takes on Manhattan in First Four action at the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday followed by BYU vs. Ole Mis.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Hampton Pirates finished their season on a 4-0 SU and ATS run to win the MEAC Tournament and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates will try to stay hot and pull off another upset when they play the Manhattan Jaspers in the first game of the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday.

Hampton is a 9-point underdog against Manhattan at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Pirates should feel comfortable in the underdog role after winning each of their last three games as the betting underdog.

In six games that featured a spread this season Hampton went 6-0 ATS. The Pirates will be squaring off against a tough favorite however as the Manhattan Jaspers are 9-0 SU and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games as the betting favorite. Manhattan finished the regular season on an 11-3 SU and 10-4 ATS run that included a 3-0 SU and ATS run through the MAAC Tournament. The winner of this game will take on No. 1 Kentucky on Thursday.

The Manhattan vs. Hampton betting matchup is a 6:40pm ET tipoff on Tuesday night at Dayton Arena. Shortly after that one wraps up it’ll be a First Four BYU vs. Mississippi betting matchup with the Cougars going off as a 3.5-point favorite. The Cougars ended the season on a nice run, while the Rebels were trending in the wrong direction.

With an 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS finish, the Cougars enter the NCAA Tournament with plenty of momentum. BYU had the second highest scoring offense in the NCAA led by senior guard Tyler Haws, who finished fourth in the nation in scoring with 21.9 points per game. The Cougars are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as the betting favorite.

Ole Miss stumbled down the stretch to a disappointing 2-4 SU and 1-5 ATS finish. The Rebels failed to turn things around in the SEC Tournament with a 60-58 loss as a 4.5-point favorite against South Carolina, but will have another chance to get back on track on Tuesday night against BYU. The winner of the BYU vs. Ole Miss matchup will advance into the Round of 64 to play against No. 6 Xavier.
