MLB betting matchup: New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays preview and odds

Chris Archer and the Tampa Bay Rays will try to pay out against the red-hot New York Yankees Tuesday night in Tampa Bay.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees are 18-6 over their last 24 games. The Yankees will try to extend their lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East standings in the second game of their four-game series Tuesday night.

New York is going off at +113 to win on Tuesday over the Rays (-123) at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Nathan Eovaldi will get the start for the Yankees, going up against Chris Archer of the Rays.

As the regular season rolls on, the New York Yankees keep winning. New York’s 21-12 record ranks as the best in the American League, and the Yankees’ offense continues to roll with an average of 4.85 runs per game.

Mark Teixeira ranks second in the American League in home runs with 11 while Alex Rodriguez is tied for fifth in the AL with eight. New York is 8-2 in its last 10 games on the road and 5-2 in its last seven games as the betting underdog according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

The Tampa Bay Rays have had trouble stringing wins together on a consistent basis this season with a 11-9 record over their last 20 games and a 17-16 record on the season.

It has been a bad week for the Rays’ rotation with the news that Alex Cobb will miss the rest of the season with Tommy John surgery and Drew Smyly may have suffered a season-ending torn labrum in his shoulder. Staff ace Chris Archer started the season off with a sparkling 0.84 ERA in April, but has an 8.68 ERA through two starts in May thus far.

However, in six career starts against the Yankees, Archer is 5-0 with a 1.93 ERA as the Rays have won all six games. Archer will try to stay hot against the Yankees and turn his month around on Tuesday night after the Yankees took Game 1 of this series with an 11-5 victory.

Tuesday night’s total for the Yankees vs. Rays betting matchup is set at seven runs at the sportsbooks. The total has gone UNDER in three of the last four games between the Yankees and the Rays.
