As is often the case, the winner of the Kentucky Derby enters the Preakness Stakes as the prohibitive favorite. Such is the case again this year as American Pharoah has been announced as the favorite at 4-5 odds during Wednesday’s post position drawing.
2015 Preakness odds: Morning line released
As expected, American Pharoah opens at the prohibitive favorite.
Should American Pharoah follow through and win the Preakness, he will become the second consecutive horse to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown (after California Chrome) and the seventh horse to accomplish the feat since 2002.
A victory at Pimlico would also put American Pharoah in position to win the Triple Crown. Since Affirmed’s Triple Crown in 1978, 13 horses have won the first two races before falling at Belmont Stakes. American Pharoah will likely be the favorite at Belmont should he win the Preakness.
As for the 2015 Preakness, Dortmund follows American Pharoah as a 3-1 favorite. Behind them is Firing Ling at 4-1 odds.
Below are the odds for each horse in the Preakness organized by post position:
| Post | Horse | Morning Line odds |
| 1 | American Pharoah | 4-5 |
| 2 | Dortmund | 3-1 |
| 3 | Mr. Z | 20-1 |
