American Pharoah drew the least-desirable post at this year’s Kentucky Derby. However, that didn’t stop the colt from coming away with the victory. The horse has a more favorable outlook for the 2015 Preakness Stakes, and has been issued 4/5 morning line odds as a result.
Preakness 2015: Post positions and morning line odds
American Pharoah will start from the No. 1 post with top contender Dortmund right next to him.
In addition to his win at the derby, American Pharoah has been installed as the prohibitive favorite due to the smaller field he will compete against during Saturday’s race. The Preakness Stakes caps the number of horses at 14, but only eight horses will take to the track on Saturday.
Still, post position does factor into wagering. Starting on the inside is never preferable. And interestingly enough, the No. 2 post went to Dortmund, the horse installed behind American Pharoah as a 3/1 favorite, with Firing Line at 4/1 odds.
The Preakness’ post time is set for 6:18 p.m. ET, and the race can be viewed on NBC.
