MLB All-Star Game 2015: Home Run Derby betting odds and preview

Prince Fielder has won the Home Run Derby twice over the last six seasons. Fielder is going off as the betting favorite to add a third Home Run Derby win to his resume on Monday night.

Fielder is the 15/4 favorite to win the Home Run Derby at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Fielder won the Derby as a Milwaukee Brewer in 2009 and as a Detroit Tiger in 2012. He will be looking for his third career win this year as a member of the Texas Rangers and has 14 home runs so far this season.

Albert Pujols has more home runs this season than anyone else in the Derby with 26 going into the All-Star break after hitting just 28 in all of 2014. Despite being a prolific home run hitter with 546 career bombs, Pujols has never won the Home Run Derby. The Angels star is going off at 6/1 to win this year’s event.

Kris Bryant (9/2 to win the Home Run Derby) and Joc Pederson (6/1) are competing for Rookie of the Year honors this season, but on Monday they will be competing on power alone. Pederson ranks 12th in the major leagues with 20 home runs this year.

The other participants in the Home Run Derby are Todd Frazier (9/2), Anthony Rizzo (7/1), Josh Donaldson (7/1) and Manny Machado (9/1). The event will be played in the format of match play with players having five minutes each to hit more home runs than their opponent to advance.

On Tuesday, the American League takes on the National League in the All-Star Game. The AL has completely dominated the All-Star Game for nearly three decades with a 20-6-1 record over the last 27 years, including wins in each of the last two games.

Despite their historical dominance, the AL is a slight underdog at +105 going against the NL All-Stars at -115. With Max Scherzer unavailable for the All-Star Game after pitching on Sunday, Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw will take his spot on the team and in the staff.
