NFL 2015 passing yards odds: Drew Brees trailing betting favorite Andrew Luck

Drew Brees led the National Football League in passing last year, but will he be in the mix for the league’s top spot again in 2015?

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Drew Brees has finished in the top two in passing yards in each of the last four seasons and led the league in passing yards in three of those four years. Brees will try to lead the New Orleans Saints to another successful season with his arm in 2015.

Despite his history of putting up big passing numbers, Brees is just fifth on the betting board at +900 to finish this season with the most passing yards in the NFL, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

In addition to having some stiff competition, Brees’ numbers could also take a hit this season with wide receiver Kenny Stills and tight end Jimmy Graham both no longer with the team. But even with those departures, Brees should still put up big numbers in Sean Payton’s pass-happy offense.

Last year, Ben Roethlisberger ended the season tied with Brees for the most passing yards in the league, with 4,952 on 48 less passing attempts. No longer shackled to being a game manager in a run-first offense, Roethlisberger has shown that he can produce as a pass-first quarterback.

With the defense in the rebuilding stage, Roethlisberger should be called upon to pass plenty in 2015 and is going off at +700 to top the league in passing.

Andrew Luck is the betting favorite to finish with the most passing yards in the NFL at +350 at the sportsbooks. Luck finished third in the NFL last year with 4,761 yards and seems to be getting better each year. The Colts added Andre Johnson this offseason to join TY Hilton, setting the stage for a ton of passing yards from the young quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers (+400) and Peyton Manning (+700) are also in the mix to be the NFL’s top passer this season.

While Rodgers is unquestionably one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, he has never cracked the top three in passing yards for a single season. Manning breezed by the competition for the passing title in 2013 with 5,477 passing yards and finished fourth in passing yards last season.

Other contenders include Matt Ryan (+1200), Eli Manning (+1200), Matthew Stafford (+1200), Tom Brady (+2000), Tony Romo (+2500) and Philip Rivers (+2800).
