Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns NFL preseason betting preview

The Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns will both be going for their first win of the preseason on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills are just 4-15 SU and 5-14 ATS over their last 19 preseason games, dating back to September 2010. The Bills will try to turn their preseason misfortunes around on Thursday night when they visit the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Buffalo is a 3-point underdog on Thursday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Cleveland Browns are a 3-point favorite but are 0-6 SU and 3-3 ATS in their last six games overall including last season and this preseason.

New head coach Rex Ryan was moments away from earning a win in his first game with the Bills last week. Buffalo led, 24-17, going into the fourth quarter of its preseason game against the Carolina Panthers and held on to that lead until the last minute of the game. But with 54 seconds left on the clock, the Panthers scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion to win the game, 25-24.

With that loss, the Bills fell to 0-4 SU and ATS over their last four preseason games and 1-7 SU and ATS over their last eight per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Cleveland jumped out to a 14-3 lead over Washington at home last week, but eventually fell, 20-17, after giving up 14 points in the second quarter. Cleveland is now just 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS over its last five preseason games.

Johnny Manziel had a pretty quiet game in Cleveland's preseason opener with just 42 passing yards, but did rush for a touchdown on one of his two carries. Manziel is expected to open the season as the backup to Josh McCown.

The Browns are 3-1 SU and ATS over their last four preseason home games.

Thursday night’s total for the Bills vs. Browns betting matchup is set at 40 points at the sportsbooks. Dating back to last year’s regular season, the Cleveland Browns are 5-0 on the UNDER for totals bettors in their last five games.

Both the Bills and the Browns come into this game with something to prove. Ryan will be evaluating position battles at both quarterback and running back, and Manziel will be looking to show that he can be a starting quarterback in Cleveland.
