Toronto Blue Jays vs. Los Angeles Angels weekend matchup, betting odds

The Toronto Blue Jays visit the Los Angeles Angels in an important weekend series between two contenders in the American League.

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays are 16-4 over their last 20 games but just 2-3 over their last five games. The Blue Jays head into an important three-game road series this weekend against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.

Toronto opened as a -138 road favorite for Friday night’s series opener against the Angels at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. David Price is set to start for the Blue Jays against Hector Santiago and the Angels, who are set at +128 at home.

On the heels of 11 straight wins, the Blue Jays entered a three-game series against the New York Yankees and looked poised to run away with the AL East. Instead, they lost two of three to the Yankees, and with the Orioles playing red-hot baseball, the division is still wide open.

The Blue Jays hold a small lead over the Angels and the Orioles in the Wild Card picture, but they would love to extend that lead with some wins this weekend. The Blue Jays are 6-4 over their last 10 road games, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

The Angels were mired in a 6-17 slump over their previous 23 games before beating the Chicago White Sox in a four-game series this past week. The Angels have won and lost in bunches this season, and their success against the White Sox could be the sign of another uptick.

Los Angeles is 14-5 in its last 19 games against the Blue Jays, including a 5-2 record at home.

Friday’s total for the Blue Jays vs. Angels betting matchup is set at seven runs. Santiago has enjoyed a solid season with a 2.86 ERA this year, while Price has been sensational on the road with a 1.93 ERA in 12 road starts in 2015.

If the Yankees hold on to the top spot in the AL East, this series could potentially be a preview of the American League Wild Card Game at the end of this year. Marco Estrada and Andrew Heaney are expected to take the mound for Saturday’s game, while R.A. Dickey and Garrett Richards will wrap up the series on Sunday. Toronto has won each of Dickey’s last six starts.
