NFL MVP odds: Andrew Luck favored over Aaron Rodgers on 2015 NFL betting prop

The Colts’ Andrew Luck leads the pack on the odds to win the NFL’s MVP award heading into the 2015 season.

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts finished the 2014 season with a 13-6 SU and a 12-6-1 ATS record after losing to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship. This year they appear geared up to go even further, which is surely one of the reasons that quarterback Andrew Luck enters the 2015 season as the favorite to be named NFL MVP.

Luck is a +300 bet, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The fourth-year QB has all of the attributes needed to be a serious MVP contender: He plays for one of the AFC’s best team, is that team’s undisputed leader and puts up big numbers.

The offseason additions of Frank Gore and Andre Johnson should only make the Colts' offense even better, and in turn improve Luck's chances of winning the award.

Aaron Rodgers isn't far behind Luck on the betting board, at +400, and he is in a similar position. The Green Bay Packers are among the favorites to win the Super Bowl this year, and a successful season would likely be the result of the play of Rodgers, as it was last year when he won his second league MVP. The loss of Jordy Nelson to a torn ACL could hurt the Packers' offensive production, but it could also make an even stronger case for Rodgers as MVP if Green Bay has a great regular season.

A defensive player hasn't won the NFL MVP award since Lawrence Taylor did so in 1986, but if that streak is going to come to an end it will almost certainly be because of J.J. Watt.

Watt is the best defensive player in the game, and his numbers and impact on every play will continue to put him in the discussion for MVP. If the Texans find themselves in the playoffs, look for Watt (+2000) to be up for strong consideration for the award.

Other top contenders for the MVP award include Adrian Peterson (+1200), Peyton Manning (+1600), Tom Brady (+2000) and Ben Roethlisberger (+2000).

Le'Veon Bell could also provide some value at +2500. Bell racked up 2,215 total yards and 11 touchdowns last year, and all indications out of camp are that he could be an even better back in 2015.
