Giants vs. Cowboys 2015 odds: NFC East showdown has Dallas favored

The Dallas Cowboys host the New York Giants and sit as the betting favorites in the first Sunday Night Football game of the 2015 season.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys have been a thorn in the side of the New York Giants over the last two years with a 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against-the-spread record in their last four games against them. The Cowboys eye continued success against their division rival this Sunday night at home against the Giants.

Dallas is one of the biggest favorites on the board this week going off as a 6-point betting favorite on Sunday night according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This is the first time since 2010 that either of these teams has been favored by more than 4.5 points in this rivalry game.

Last season, the Cowboys had one of the top rushing attacks in the game with DeMarco Murray in the backfield. Murray is no longer with the team, but the Cowboys believe that their elite offensive line will keep the running game going strong as Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle take over the bulk of the carries in 2015.

Tony Romo will once again lead the charge under center, giving the Cowboys a well-rounded offense again this year. Dallas is 5-1 SU in its last six September home games per the OddsShark NFL Database.

The Giants stumbled to a disappointing 6-10 SU and 7-9 ATS season in 2014, struggling to find consistency on offense early in the year and on defense all year long. The Giants did end the season on a positive note on a 3-1 SU and ATS run, and a new star on offense emerged in Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham Jr. will face a depleted Cowboys secondary on Sunday with cornerback Orlando Scandrick out for the year. The Giants will try to snap out of a 1-5 SU and ATS slump over their last six September road games.

The OVER is 6-1 in New York’s last seven games as the betting underdog. Sunday night’s total is set at 51.5 points at the sportsbooks.

Four of the last five games between the Cowboys and the Giants have been decided by five points or less. Even if New York’s defensive struggles continue, the Giants should be able to do enough on offense to keep this one close and cover as a six-point underdog.
