Jets vs. Colts 2015 odds: Indianapolis the Monday night betting favorite

The Indianapolis Colts seek to avoid an 0-2 start with a home win over the New York Jets as seven-point betting favorites on Monday night.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets are 3-9 straight up and 4-6-2 against the spread in their last 12 games on the road. The Jets have won and covered in their last two games on the road, however, and will look to do the same as an underdog on Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts.

New York is a seven-point road underdog on Monday night, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Indianapolis is 6-0 SU and 5-0-1 ATS in its last six games as a favorite of seven points or more.

The Jets kicked their season off with a strong performance last Sunday, topping the Cleveland Browns 31-10, as a 3.5-point favorite. Ryan Fitzpatrick did fine in the role of game manager, and Chris Ivory rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns. But the game was won by New York’s stout defense, which was able to force five turnovers, including four fumbles.

New York’s defense gets a notably tougher assignment this week at Indianapolis. The Jets are 4-0 ATS over their last four games, per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Indianapolis had one of the best offenses in the NFL last year, finishing third in the league in total yards per game with 406.6, and sixth in the league in scoring with 28.6 points per game.

Many anticipate that the offense could be even better in 2015 with the offseason acquisitions of Frank Gore and Andre Johnson. But last week in Buffalo, this unit couldn’t get anything going, gaining only 304 yards of total offense in a 27-14 loss.

The Colts will try to bounce back at home on Monday night where they are 11-2 SU and 10-2-1 ATS over their last 13 games.

Monday night’s total is set at 46.5 points. The UNDER is 8-0 in the Colts’ last eight games.

This is a tough game to call. The Colts should be fired up at home after last week’s disappointing loss, but the Jets aren’t going to a be a pushover on defense. In a week that has been unkind to betting favorites, the Jets could continue that trend with a cover as a seven-point dog by keeping this one close.
