Washington vs. Giants 2015 odds: New York betting favorite for ‘Thursday Night Football’

The New York Giants hope to avoid falling into an 0-3 hole to start the season hosting the Washington Redskins as favorites on Thursday night.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants are just 2-9 straight up and 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 games played in the month of September. The perennially slow-starters will try to avoid an 0-3 start to the season this Thursday night when they host Washington.

New York is a 4-point home favorite for Thursday, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Giants are 9-0 SU and 6-3 ATS in their last nine home games as a favorite of four or more points.

The Giants held a 23-13 lead over the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth quarter of their first game of the season and a 20-10 lead over the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth quarter of their game last week. Unfortunately for their fans and backers, the Giants blew both of those leads, losing 27-26 to the Cowboys and 24-20 to the Falcons. Moving forward, New York will need more out of its defense and running game to protect these leads and hold on for wins.

Facing Washington could serve as a good slump-buster for the Giants. New York is 4-0 SU and ATS in its last four games against the Redskins, per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Washington looked thoroughly dominant in their 24-10 win over the St. Louis Rams last Sunday. Kirk Cousins was a super efficient 23-of-27 passing with a touchdown and no interceptions. Matt Jones and Alfred Morris combined for 182 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries.

Washington’s defense has been a pleasant surprise this season in playing well against both Miami and St. Louis. The Redskins are just 1-5 SU in their last six games as a road underdog in September.

Thursday night’s total is set at 43.5 points. The UNDER is 5-1 in Washington’s last six divisional road games and 5-1 in New York’s last six games as a home favorite.

Washington has played well this season. When factoring in their strong defensive play and the Giants’ inability to close out games so far this season, Washington appears to have some value as a 4-point underdog in this division rivalry game.
