Broncos vs. Lions 2015 odds: Detroit home betting dogs against Denver

Detroit looks for its first win of the season at home as underdogs against the Broncos on Sunday night, after losing two straight on the road.

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are 0-4 straight up and 1-3 against the spread over their last four games. The Lions will attempt to avoid falling to 0-3 SU and ATS on the season hosting the Denver Broncos on Sunday night at Ford Field.

Detroit is a 3-point home underdog according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last 15 games as a home underdog, the Lions are 2-13 SU and 9-6 ATS.

It’s only two games into the 2015 season, but Detroit’s defense is clearly not what it was last season. The Lions ranked second in the NFL in total yards allowed in 2014 with 300.9 per game and was best against the rush, allowing only 69.3 yards per game.

Through the first two games in 2015, Detroit ranks 30th in total yards allowed, with 416.5 per game, and 29th against the rush, with 147.5 points per game. The absence of Ndamukong Suh is clearly felt.

The Broncos snatched victory from the jaws of defeat last Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. After falling down 24-17 with 2:27 left in the fourth quarter, Peyton Manning led the Broncos on an 80-yard game-tying touchdown drive that ended with 35 seconds left on the clock.

One recovery of a Jamaal Charles fumble for a touchdown later, and the Broncos had a 31-24 regulation win and a 2-0 SU and ATS record.

Manning hasn’t looked totally at home in Gary Kubiak’s offense, but he still has the ability to close games out strong. Denver is just 1-5 SU and ATS in its last six games against NFC North opponents per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Sunday night’s total is currently set at 44.5 points. The OVER is 9-1 in Detroit’s last 10 games against AFC West opponents.

There will be plenty of motivation on the Lions sideline this Sunday as the Lions look to avoid an 0-3 start and win in their home opener.

But overall this is a bad matchup for the Lions, who have a one-dimensional offense that will likely struggle against Denver’s strong defense and a rushing defense that Kubiak’s rush-heavy offense could exploit. Take the Broncos as 3-point road favorites.
