Seahawks vs. Panthers odds, NFL playoffs 2016: Carolina small home favorite against Seattle

The Carolina Panthers will face a tough postseason test at home this week, hosting the Seattle Seahawks as small betting favorites on Sunday.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are 5-1 straight up and 3-2-1 against the spread in their last six games against the Carolina Panthers. The Seahawks will look for continued success against the Panthers this Sunday afternoon on the road at Bank of America Stadium.

Seattle is a 2.5-point road underdog in Charlotte, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Carolina Panthers are 3-0 SU and ATS in their last three games as a favorite of 2.5 points or less.

After going into the fourth quarter trailing the Minnesota Vikings 9-0 last week, the Seattle Seahawks finally found their offense and scored 10 unanswered points to take a 10-9 lead.

It looked as though that might all be for naught as Minnesota marched down the field into field goal range, but a shocking miss from Blair Walsh sealed the game for the Seahawks and punched their ticket into the next round. The Seahawks hope that a trip out of below-zero temperatures will help bring the offense back to life.

With the win last Sunday the Seahawks improved to 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games per the OddsShark NFL Database. Seattle is 4-1 ATS in its last five games as an underdog of 2.5 points or less.

The Carolina Panthers fell a game short of a perfect regular season, but with a 38-10 blowout over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Panthers shook off their upset loss to Atlanta in convincing fashion.

The Panthers finished the regular season with a 15-1 SU and 11-5 ATS record, scoring an NFL best 31.3 points per game while allowing only 19.3 points per game. Carolina is 0-3 SU in its last three division round games, but this year’s team has as good a chance as any to break that slump.

Sunday’s total is set at 44 points. The OVER is 10-4 in Carolina’s last 14 games and 5-1 in Seattle’s last six games in the Divisional round.

It was a great game when these two teams met earlier in the regular season, and this one should be great, too. It’s tight and a strong case could be made for both teams, but Carolina deserves the nod here with home field and the bye week off to rest and prepare for the Seahawks.
