Super Bowl 2016 odds: Patriots enter the weekend as betting favorite

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots enter conference championship weekend as the betting favorite on the odds to win Super Bowl 50.

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots are 8-3 straight up in their last 11 trips to the AFC Championship Game. The Patriots will try to earn their ninth Super Bowl berth in franchise history this Sunday afternoon with a road win against the Denver Broncos.

New England is atop the odds to win Super Bowl 50 at +190 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. After starting the season off with a 10-0 SU and 5-2-3 ATS record, the Patriots stumbled down the stretch due to a slew of injuries.

With time to get healthy over the last few weeks, impact players like Dont’a Hightower and Julian Edelman have returned just in time to spark New England’s playoff push.

Right below the Patriots on the Super Bowl betting lines are the Carolina Panthers going off at +200 to win the title. Carolina hasn’t been beaten at home since November of 2014, stringing together 12 straight home wins with an 8-2 ATS record over its last 10 games.

The Panthers are one more home win away from their first trip to the Super Bowl since 2003.

The betting favorites on championship weekend are 10-2 SU over the last six seasons. The Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos hope to buck that trend with upsets this Sunday.

Arizona could be the best value play remaining on the board at +375 to win the Super Bowl. The Cardinals are 10-1 SU over their last 11 games, and the one loss came in Week 17 when the team didn’t have much for which to play.

Getting a win on the road against the Panthers won’t be easy, but the Cardinals are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games according to the OddsShark NFL Database and would be dangerous in the Super Bowl if they do pull off the upset on Sunday.

The Denver Broncos round out the Super Bowl 50 betting odds at +400 to win the championship.

While all four of the remaining teams in the postseason have strong defenses, only Denver has an offense outside of the Top 3 in the NFL in scoring, ranking 19th during the regular season with 22.2 points per game.
