Seven of the last nine winners of the Super Bowl MVP award have been quarterbacks. Cam Newton is favored to keep that trend going this year in Super Bowl 50 between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos.
Super Bowl 2016 MVP odds: Quarterbacks Cam Newton, Peyton Manning betting favorites
Cam Newton of the Panthers and Peyton Manning of the Broncos sit atop the odds to win the Super Bowl 50 MVP award at the sportsbooks.

Newton is the clear favorite on the odds to win Super Bowl MVP, going off at -140 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Newton's Panthers are a 4.5-point favorite to win the game, and the star quarterback has all of the pieces in place to win the award if Carolina wins the Super Bowl.
Newton is the undisputed star of the offense, puts up big numbers and makes plenty of highlight reel plays.
On the other side of the quarterback spectrum, Peyton Manning is going off at +275 to win his second Super Bowl MVP award. At this point in his career, Manning no longer puts up big offensive numbers, and his role is one of a game manager as opposed to a star.
But in what might be the last game of his illustrious career, he would be a sentimental favorite to win the award if the Broncos pull off the Super Bowl upset, especially if he makes a big play or two.
Denver is 5-1 straight up and 5-0-1 against the spread in its last six games as an underdog according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
Both of these teams are recognized for having elite defenses, and those defenses are led by two exceptional athletes at the linebacker position. Carolina's Luke Kuechly is going off at +1400 to win the MVP award and is the only player on the board besides the two quarterbacks going off at less than +2200.
Denver's Von Miller is one of the players going off at +2200 as the leader of the Denver defense. Two linebackers have won this award in the last 15 seasons.
Rounding out the top contenders on each side are Carolina's Ted Ginn Jr. (+2200), Greg Olsen (+2200), Jonathan Stewart (+2200), and Josh Norman (+2800), and Denver's C.J. Anderson (+2200), Demaryius Thomas (+2200), Emmanuel Sanders (+2200), and Aqib Talib (+2800).
Anderson will try to follow in the footsteps of Terrell Davis, who was the last running back to win Super Bowl MVP when he did so for the Broncos in 1998.
