Super Bowl odds 2016: Newton betting favorite on first touchdown props

Bettors can wager on which Panthers and Broncos players in Super Bowl 50 will score touchdowns and which one will find the end zone first.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

With 38 touchdown passes and 12 rushing touchdowns this season, Cam Newton has had a hand in 50 TDs through 18 games. Newton, the Super Bowl 50 MVP favorite, and the Carolina Panthers will try to keep the touchdowns coming against the league's top defense.

A Cam Newton touchdown is the favorite to be the first touchdown scored at Super Bowl 50 at +700 according to the prop bets released by sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

When it comes to grading the “First Touchdown Scorer” prop, if the touchdown is caught, the receiving player is the one who is graded the winner. Tight end Greg Olsen is going off at +750 to score the game’s first touchdown while speedy wideout Ted Ginn Jr. would pay +1000. Running back Jonathan Stewart sits at +800 to score the game’s first touchdown.

On Denver’s side, C.J. Anderson, Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are all going off at +900 to score the first touchdown of the game. Slightly longer shots are Ronnie Hillman and Owen Daniels, who had the first touchdown of the game and two touchdown catches overall in Denver’s win over New England in the AFC Championship Game.

In addition to betting on who will score the first touchdown, bettors can also simply bet on whether or not a player will score a touchdown at any point in the game. Carolina’s options include Newton and Stewart at -110 to score, Olsen at +100, Ginn Jr. at +140, and Corey Brown at +200.

Denver’s Anderson, Thomas and Sanders are each going off at +110 to score, Daniels and Hillman are at +200 each, and Jordan Norwood would pay +400 if he scores a touchdown.

Bettors that anticipate a low-scoring Super Bowl could bet that UNDER 3.5 touchdowns will be scored in this game at +275 or UNDER 4.5 touchdowns will be scored at +145, with the OVER 3.5 set at -350 and the OVER 4.5 at -175.

For the team touchdown line, Carolina’s line is set at three touchdowns with the OVER paying +100 and the UNDER paying -130. Denver, sitting as the betting underdog for the game, has props of OVER 2.5 touchdowns at +120 and UNDER 2.5 touchdowns at -150.
