Jaguars vs. Titans 2016 odds: Tennessee set as home favorite over Jacksonville for Thursday

The Tennessee Titans will be looking to keep pace in the AFC South division race on Thursday night as primetime odds favorites against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans are 4-15 straight up and 1-16-2 against the spread in their last 19 games against AFC South division rivals. The Titans will try to break out of a four-game losing streak against their divisional foes this Thursday night at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tennessee is a 3.5-point home favorite in Nashville at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last eight games as a home favorite, the Titans are 0-7-1 ATS.

The Titans went 2-14 SU and 3-12-1 ATS in 2014, and followed that up with another weak campaign of 3-13 SU and 4-11-1 ATS in 2015. Tennessee matched last season’s win total in a Week 6 win over Cleveland, but failed to eclipse it last week in 34-26 home loss to Indianapolis that dropped the team’s record to 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS.

The team still has plenty of room for improvement, but DeMarco Murray’s consistent production in the running game has helped alleviate some of the pressure on quarterback Marcus Mariota.

In the team's last 15 games against teams with losing records, Tennessee is 3-12 SU and 2-13-1 ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Betting Line / Total: Tennessee -3.5 / 43.5 Points

Trend: The Titans are 3-12 SU and 2-12-1 ATS in their last 15 games against teams with losing records.

Trend: The Jaguars are 1-5 SU in their last six games after losing as a favorite.

Jacksonville rolled into last Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders with some momentum coming off back-to-back upset wins over Indianapolis and Chicago. But going off as a favorite for the first time in the team’s last eight games, the Jaguars looked awful on both sides of the ball in a 33-16 loss at home.

Even with a 2-4 SU and 4-2 ATS record, Jacksonville still has a chance to play its way back into the playoff picture thanks to a very weak AFC South division this season.

Thursday night’s total is set at 43.5 points. The UNDER is 4-1 in the last five meetings between the Jaguars and Titans.

The Jaguars haven’t had a winning season or made the postseason since 2007, and Tennessee has had only one winning season and hasn’t made the postseason since 2008.

Both of these perennial cellar dwellers came into this season with optimism, but neither can likely afford to lose on Thursday night if it hopes to keep its prospects of a winning season in 2016 alive.
